Slow start turns into victory for Patriots

PLANTATION – A close game in the American Heritage Plantation-Trinity Christian Academy matchup turned into a win for the home team last night (Sept. 1).

This Week 2 tilt started off slow as American Heritage was tied with Trinity 0-0 at the end of the first quarter. But coming out to start the second quarter, Dia Bell (‘26 QB) threw a pass to Malachi Toney (‘26 WR), who juked the defender for a touchdown.

Toney’s score – plus the extra point- put American Heritage ahead 7-0 in the second quarter.

What would have been a 10-0 game going into halftime ended up staying at 7-0.

This was due to the fact that American Heritage had three flags called on them as they were attempting a three-point field goal. These penalties put American Heritage way back from their end zone, contributing to the field goal that was missed by the kicker.

Coming out of the 7-0 halftime lead, American Heritage came out and marched the ball down the field and scored a touchdown. It was another scoring pass from Dia to Toney – plus another extra point – that put the home team up 14-0.

Trinity got the ball and marched it down the field and scored a touchdown on American Heritage. This put the score at 14-6. Trinity went for the extra point attempt, but the extra point was blocked by American Heritage defensive back Jordan Rich.

With 2:56 left in the third quarter, the ball was handed off to Bryon Louis (‘25 RB), who ran it in for a touchdown. This put American Heritage up 21-6.

At the end of the the quarter, the 21-6 score stayed the same in favor of American Heritage.

With 6:27 left in the fourth quarter, American Heritage was on the 1-yard line. The ball was handed off to Louis (‘25 RB) for another American Heritage touchdown, which put American Heritage up 27-6.

With 59 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Trinity scored a touchdown on American Heritage, putting the score at 27-14 with a two-point conversion that was good.

The final score of this game was American Heritage Plantation 27, Trinity Christian Academy 14.
