Somerset Academy dominates spring game versus Marjory Stoneman Douglas

After a (7-3) finish last year and first playoff berth in school history, the cougars don’t seem to have slowed down much since the fall after 49-0 victory tonight.

Somerset dominated on both sides of the ball tonight barely giving up anything on defense and scoring at will on offense.

Recap of the key highlights

Defense

• Wilzard Sterling, a freshman DE, made an impressive impact with five sacks in the first half.

• Freshman Javion Herrington contributed with five tackles and one sack.

• Rashad Walker added another three tacklesto the defensive effort.

Offense

• DJ Manns, the running back, scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half, setting a strong pace for the game.

• Jayden Harrington, the rising senior quarterback, threw three touchdowns; one to Javion Norwood and two to Dereion Darby.

• Erskin Jackson’s electric touchdown run extended the lead to 35-0 at halftime, putting the game firmly in Somerset Academy’s favor.

Somerset is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and it’s clear they trust the coaching, which will be a big upside for the Cougars going into the summer.

Head Coach Alex Gonzalez has the Cougars headed in the right direction and has his squad motivated to make another playoff run this fall.

Somerset Academy Canyons will host South Fork August 16th to open the season.
