BOYNTON BEACH – Palm Beach County’s top long snapper will be playing his senior year of high school football for a former long snapper.

Hudson Wharton made his transfer move from Suncoast to Somerset Academy Canyons official on his Twitter account yesterday (July 13).

The 6-foot, 220-pound long snapper, who is in the 2023 class, also logged in some time as a defensive end this past season for Suncoast. He was one of the most reliable players overall on last year’s Suncoast team.

Our No. 1-ranked specialist wanted to share his thanks to Suncoast for helping him in his growth and development.

“I gained a lot from Suncoast,” Wharton said. “I met a ton of teachers, mentors, and brothers there. From my time being there I had the opportunity to become a better player as well. And a lot of that can come from my former defensive coordinator Timotheus Granger, who is now the head coach of Suncoast. He taught me so much about football, and I am forever grateful for that.”

Wharton delved even further.

“I also want to thank the person that got me into long snapping, Derek Giovanetti, a former player from the Class of 2022,” Wharton said. “He inspired me to be great at what I did and always told me to keep snapping. He would always uplift me even if I would have a bad snap. And to all of my other teammates who would push me to be a better player, I am forever grateful for them as well.”

With that being said, Wharton’s new head coach at Somerset Academy Canyons is Alex Gonzalez, who was a former long snapper for Palm Beach County Hall of Famer and Green Bay Packers punter Pat O’Donnell more than a decade ago at Palm Beach Central.

Wharton spoke on Somerset Academy Canyons and how he can flourish there.

“I think Somerset Canyons will help me grow as a player and person just as much if not even more than Suncoast did,” Wharton said. “Their coaching staff and team has the ability to push me the farthest I have ever gone. I had the chance to speak to the head coach of Somerset Canyons, Coach Gonzo, after I was finally enrolled and I could tell that he was a genuine guy and truly wanted the best for me. Canyons is definitely a place that I know I will be welcomed and I can’t wait to meet the team.”
