Junior kicker delivers three field goals, including the eventual game-winner, as the Cadets improve to 4-0

St. John’s College High School junior kicker Luke Moore entered Saturday’s matchup against nationally ranked West Boca knowing his opportunities could make a difference.

He made every one of them count.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Class of 2028 placekicker delivered three field goals, including a 50-plus-yard strike and the eventual game-winner, to help the Cadets escape with a 15-14 victory and improve to 4-0 on the season.

The game itself required some patience before it ever kicked off. Originally scheduled for Friday, the highly anticipated matchup was pushed to Saturday. Once the teams finally took the field, Moore became one of the biggest stories of the afternoon.

St. John’s found itself trailing 7-0 early before Moore was called upon in the first quarter.

The junior calmly connected on a 34-yard field goal to cut West Boca’s advantage to 7-3 and put the Cadets on the scoreboard.

His next opportunity required considerably more leg.

With halftime approaching and St. John’s trying to stay within striking distance, Moore lined up for a field goal from beyond 50 yards. He drilled it through the uprights, helping the Cadets cut West Boca’s halftime advantage to 14-12.

But his biggest moment was still ahead.

With 7:19 remaining in the fourth quarter and St. John’s trailing 14-12, Moore was called upon once again.

This time, the lead was riding on his right leg, Moore delivered.

His third field goal of the afternoon gave St. John’s its first lead of the game, 15-14. That score would hold through the final whistle, making Moore’s kick the difference in a one-point victory.

For a junior in his first season with the Cadets, it was a moment he won’t soon forget.

Moore admitted there were plenty of nerves throughout the afternoon. He had never experienced a game in which so much depended on his ability to deliver in pressure situations.

“I want to thank God. I couldn’t have done anything today without my team and God,” Moore said.

When the final field goal sailed through the uprights, Moore said his trust in the players around him helped him overcome the pressure.

“I was scared, but I trusted my teammates to get the ball down for me, and I just thanked God.”

Saturday’s performance becomes even more meaningful considering this is Moore’s first season at St. John’s.

Despite being new to the program, Moore said his teammates have embraced him from the beginning and helped make the transition an easy one. He described the Cadets as already feeling like family.

That trust was on display Saturday.

Three opportunities. Three field goals. And when St. John’s needed points the most, its junior kicker answered the call.

Moore’s leg accounted for nine of the Cadets’ 15 points in a game decided by a single point.

Now 4-0, St. John’s will head back to Washington, D.C., with another hard-fought victory — and a kicker who proved he can deliver when the pressure is at its highest.

The Cadets will continue their season against St. Edward on September 26.

For Luke Moore, Saturday was more than just a big kicking performance. It was an opportunity to show his new team that when his number is called, he’s ready.
