Zion Vilma, one of the best Florida-based prospects in the 2027 class, is back on the recruiting board!
The Dr. Joaquin Garcia standout decommitted from Rutgers on Friday night and posted a statement on social media to confirm the move. Vilma, who stars at both wideout and cornerback, has 18 total offers that include Georgia, Miami, and UCF.
“First, I’d like to thank my family for all of their support through my recruitment. I would also like to thank all of the coaches and staff at Rutgers University for the opportunity to play at the next level. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the time, effort, and relationships built throughout the recruiting process. This decision was not made lightly. At this time, I would like to announce that I am de-committing from Rutgers University and opening my recruitment back up.”

Vilma, mainly operating at wideout in 2026, has already amassed 214 yards and two touchdowns in three games. The wideout has had at least 60 yards in all three games (according to MaxPreps) and had at least six receptions in two of his three games. In his career, Vilma has 1,607 yards and 25 touchdowns on 101 receptions. He also has 39 total tackles and five interceptions in his career with the Bulldogs.
One would imagine plenty of teams will circle back to the newly available Vilma. He has the speed and overall skill set to thrive at the next level, especially at the wide receiver position. Vilma’s route running and physicality have also improved in 2026, giving him more ways to win as a wideout at the next level.
With most of his peers currently locked in with schools, Zion Vilma should immediately become one of the best uncommitted players in the state and at the “athlete” position. As a result, Vilma’s new recruitment process is one to watch over the coming weeks and months.
