On Thursday night, The AirShow found his home at the college football level.

Live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube Channel, Neimann Lawrence, one of the best quarterbacks in the country, regardless of class, chose to commit to the Texas Longhorns. Texas beat out Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M for the Florida signal caller’s pledge. Lawrence is now the first commit in Texas’ 2028 class, which comes on the heels of the Longhorns adding plenty of talent in the 2027 class.

Asked by 24/7 Sports about why he chose the Longhorns, Lawrence emphasized his ability to develop within the program.

“The rich quarterback development history that they have with coach (Steve) Sarkisian and (quarterbacks) coach (AJ) Milwee,” Lawrence said. “They have a long list of guys they developed over the past couple of years at Alabama and Texas as well. Being a part of that group and knowing that I’m going to be developed by a staff to go to the next level is the ultimate goal.”

Lawrence also told 24/7 Sports that he wants to get ahead in his recruiting and help bring more players to the University of Texas.

“I’ve been in this process for a long time, since my seventh-grade year. I wanted to get ahead of my recruitment so I can recruit for my class. I feel like I am a strong resource in the class of 2028, and I will be able to recruit a lot of guys to the University of Texas. Brysen Wright is a top receiver we are targeting. There is another class of 2028 receiver down in Texas, Damarion Mays. There are also a lot of other guys from South Florida that I know would love to play with me. It will be a long list, and we are looking to build one of the top recruiting classes early on.

Lawrence, who stood out at Miami Ransom Everglades and Miami Northwestern before arriving at American Heritage (Plantation) this spring, has all of the skills to be an elite college quarterback. His processing is top-notch, as Lawrence is able to understand defenses and get through his reads quickly. Lawrence’s arm is one of the best in the state of Florida; he can fit throws into any window and truly hit any spot on the field. Additionally, he has great footwork, has great accuracy, and consistently shows the ability to use touch on throws.

With his commitment out of the way, Lawrence now shifts his focus to what should be a fun 2026 season for him and American Heritage. If he continues to progress as expected, the star quarterback will continue to show why Texas got one of the best overall players in the 2028 class.
