Coral Gables, FL: The Miami Hurricanes faced off versus the Syracuse Orange Tuesday night at the Watsco Center, securing the Canes’ second win in ACC conference play.
From the opening tip, Miami set the tone with aggressive plays on both ends of the court; their perimeter shooting was on point, as the Hurricanes shot 50% from behind the arc. Guard Matthew Cleveland led the Canes in scoring tonight, racking up a career-high 32 points while shooting an impressive 10-13 from the field.
Guard J.J. Starling scored 25 points for Syracuse, while center Eddie Lampkin Jr. scored a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Despite these strong individual performances, the Orange struggled defensively, allowing Miami to capitalize on key opportunities.
The Hurricanes displayed remarkable efficiency on offense, shooting 55.4% from the field and connecting on 10 of their 20 three-point attempts. Freshman Jalil Bethea, too, dropped a career-high 21 points, along with six rebounds and four assists.
It is safe to say — tonight was a historic scoring night for Miami.
The game remained competitive throughout, with multiple lead changes. However, a pivotal 8-0 run by Miami in the second half, highlighted by a three-pointer from Paul Djobet, shifted the momentum in favor of the Hurricanes. Miami maintained their lead by converting crucial free throws down the stretch, finishing 19-23 from the line.
As they prepare for their next matchup, Miami looks to build on this momentum as they are set to take on Pitt on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Peterson Events Center.
