LAKE WORTH – Speak an action into existence and it will happen.
This is what Shawn Estiverne had in his mind when it comes to Park Vista’s emerging status as one of the best teams in Palm Beach County.
The fourth-ranked Cobras (4-0) stormed by Royal Palm Beach (0-4) last week in a 69-0 road win. This was the largest win by any team in Palm Beach County for Week 5.
This fact alone could serve as how Park Vista was selected as our Team of Week 5.
“This is gonna be a every week thing,” Estiverne said. “To be honest, we couldn’t get too comfortable being 3-0, so going into that game we had the mentality of being 0-0. Not only that, but after the first half being 55-0, we went into the second half with a mindset of the game starting all over again. That’s how we secured the win and handled business. We put so much points on the board because we still have something to prove.”
Park Vista senior defensive back Julian Mountcastle caught two interceptions, both of which were returned for scores. His stellar performance was enough to earn our MVP of Week 5 honor.
“It feels great to know that our hard work and execution on Friday nights isn’t going unnoticed,” Mountcastle said. “We just try to get better each week and make a statement every game day.”
Park Vista senior quarterback Brock Hansel III played in only one quarter against Royal Palm Beach County. But he did complete seven of his eight passes, two of which went for touchdowns.
“I just feel like it’s a great honor,” Hansel III said. “But we can’t get satisfied and complacent. We have to respect our opponent each week and never underestimate them in order to stay hungry and humble.”
Park Vista junior athlete Keith Rader offered his take on earning the Team of Week 5 honor.
“I’m truly proud of my brothers for putting in the work and that it’s showing,” Rader said. “It’s a total team effort. Our coaches come up with a great game plan week in week out. It’s a driving force that keeps us motivated and hungry to keep working. But we never let it get to our heads. We just are trying to remain focused and keep winning.”
NOTE: Park Vista’s next game is at home in Week 6 against Santaluces (0-4). The homecoming tilt is set for Friday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
