BOCA RATON – We have seen all of the highlight angles from Boca Raton’s inspiring road win over Dwyer in Week 7.
Bobcats senior athlete Artur Chagaev earned our co-Breakthrough Player of Week 7 honor by hitting a 45-yard field goal in the first half to give his team a 3-0 lead over the Panthers.
Meanwhile, fellow senior and linebacker Valentino Diaz caught an interception and took it in for a score with 7:57 left in the game. This gave Boca Raton (5-1) a 9-0 lead over Dwyer (4-2) and sealed the MVP of Week 7 for Diaz.
And Boca Raton head coach David Angell had a masterful game plan for his team, which resulted in their 9-8 road win this past weekend over Dwyer. This alone earned Angell our Coach of Week 7 honor.
When one takes in the week to remember for Boca Raton, it is easy to see how this upstart program was selected as our Team of Week 7.
“It’s good to have the recognition,” Boca Raton defensive coordinator Jared De Freitas said. “We are still defending Tri-County champions and our goal is states. But a lot of people wrote us off for our spring and KOC games.”
De Freitas had more to say about this matter.
“To Coach Angell’s credit, we wanted to see what we have player wise,” De Freitas said. “You can see that all of our starters only played two drives against Treasure Coast because the game didn’t matter standing wise. There was no need for our players to be hurt. So a way to keep our starters healthy and give our young guys experience was seen as “Boca fell off” or “They weren’t as good as we thought due to COVID”, and that’s wrong. We are legitimate, and Coach Angell has put us in that position.”
Boca Raton senior offensive lineman Gavin Joseph offered his take on the Team of Week 7 honor.
“It feels great,” Joseph said. “But we’re focused on having great defensive performances like last week every week, while having even better offensive performances so we can get to that team of the year level.”
For this amazing team performance, Boca Raton made its season debut in our Top 10 Combined Team Rankings at No. 6.
“It feels good to finally get the recognition we deserve for all of our hard work,” Diaz said.
Boca Raton senior running back and recent Lafayette commit Trey Rainey chimed in.
“At first, we weren’t even on the radar,” Rainey said. “But now we beat the No. 2 team in the county. We’ll forget about this game and move on to the next one.”
Chagaev concurred.
“It’s a great honor for sure,” Chagaev said. “But our team doesn’t care about what happened last week. We only care about beating Monarch on Friday.”
