The Chance for Greatness: PBC QB on the Grasp of History

We are officially in the final preparation for the upcoming 2025-26 season. While teams are spending the next week fine tuning everything on the field in order to prepare for Week 0, that doesn’t mean the media can’t game plan too.

Yesterday afternoon, myself and Naji Tobias of MuckCityMedia Enterprises got into a discussion that ultimately led us down a very deep rabbit hole. The prompt: Could we project any Palm Beach County records to fall in 2025? After breaking out the calculators for hours of research and stat breakdowns (the most math I’ve done since my days in high school I might add) we struck gold.

In 1998, Pahokee ATH Anquan Boldin became the first player in FHSAA history to record over 10,000 yards of career total offense. Boldin would cap off his legendary career with 11,433 total yards, 134 TDs (71 passing, 56 rushing, 5 on interceptions returns, 2 on punt returns)- per the PalmBeachPost. After crunching the numbers, myself and Naji discovered that Anquan Boldin no longer holds the title of most career passing yards in Palm Beach County history. That title is currently held by the great Lincoln Graf (2021-25) with 9,206 career yards and 86 touchdowns in the air.

Despite what most may think, Graf’s record isn’t completely out of grasp. Enter Palm Beach Central QB Chance Routson. Routson, headed into his 4th year as a starter has already amassed 6,205 yards in the air. That would mean Chance needs to toss for 3,002 yards to break Graf’s record. In a 10 game regular season, that would mean Routson needs to average 300 YPG in the air. This might sound tricky, but this is Palm Beach Central we’re talking about after all. We know the Broncos will secure a post season bid, and advance out of the first round. So if we go straight off last year and have a 12 game season as PBC’s floor, Routson needs to average a much more manageable 250 YPG.

On top of his incredible arm, Chance Routson possesses an elite dual threat ability that’s second to none in our area. While combining his aerial stats with his numbers on the ground, Chance Routson currently stands at 7,263 total yards. Circling back to ’98, if Chance Routson wants to be in that elite company with 561 legends like Anquan Boldin, he would need to record 2,737 yards of total offense (228 YPG, 12Game) this season to hit that 10,000 total yard mark.

Another milestone that is definitely worth noting as well is that Chance Routson is currently 22 touchdowns shy of 100 career total scores. Routson has never had a season under double digit touchdowns, and his previous two seasons as the established starter blow that number out of the water, so this is most certainly attainable as well.

How many of these Palm Beach County milestones could we see Chance take down this upcoming season? Only time will tell, but the statistics are most certainly on his side.
