BOCA RATON- After the departure of the class of 2023, there is a power vacuum throughout Palm Beach County for the top quarterbacks. Who do I believe will step up and take control of the County? Boca High’s Chance Routson (’26).

Chance Routson is a 6’3″ 180 pound duel threat athlete. He is able to dissect opposing defenses through the air, as well as use his legs and scramble when he needs to. I believe that Routson’s field vision and decision making is his biggest strength. Despite only being a rising sophomore, he plays like a seasoned veteran.

Through 10 games as Boca’s Freshman team starter, Routson led the Bobcats to a 6-4 record, recording over 1,500 yards and 25 total touchdowns.

Chance Routson has not received any official offers yet, however he has received interest from UCF, Pitt, USF, FIU, FSU and UMass.

When you look for a quarterback, something you need to look out for is if they are able to lead and rally a locker room. When asked about his leadership, Routson said:

“There’s multiple ways to prepare and lead the team. If we do the little things like watching film, getting everybody in the weight room and our recovery, we will succeed. Another way we can succeed is by building a bond together on and off the field. If we have a brotherly bond and we fight for each other and have each other’s back every Friday night on that field I feel like nobody could stop our motor and we will achieve our goals this year.”

2023 is a year of new beginnings for Boca. As Chance Routson is preparing to make his debut as the team’s starter, his former offensive coordinator, Alex Savakinas is making his Head Coaching debut. Routson and Savakinas have one of the strongest player-coach bonds I’ve ever seen. They have nothing but the highest of praise for each other.

When asked about Chance as a player, Coach Sav said:

“Chance is turning into a great young leader on our team. Being a QB he understands the responsibility he has to hold everyone to the highest standard possible. That with the combination of his work ethic in the weight room, film room and on the field is helping him turn into one of the best QBs in south Florida.”

When asked about Coach Savakinas, Routson said:

“Coach Sav has been a key component to building the little things on the field like my vision, reading defenses, the IQ of the game, but most importantly, he’s helped me build a lot of confidence in myself as a player. By him always having my back he enabled me to be able to walk on that field with my head up and my chest out to take over the game.”

During Boca High’s spring victory over Wellington High (42-6), Chance put his talents on display for everyone to see. Routson showed off his elite accuracy by throwing completions through tight windows, where only his receivers could grab the ball. Chance also made explosive plays on his legs, including an 80 yard touchdown rush early in the first quarter.

Routson’s final stat line was

8/10 Completions

125 Passing Yards

1 Passing TD

175 Rushing Yards

3 Rushing TDs

When asked about the spring game against Wellington, Routson said:

“This game definitely gave us confidence and a great perspective of how our season will go. I feel like we played good as a team but there’s always things to work on that we can take into the offseason and fix to get us ready to compete at the highest level next season.”

Boca High is going to be a very exciting team to watch in 2023. I personally am very excited to watch our rising star in action next season.
