ROYAL PALM BEACH – The King’s Academy Lions hosted the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks from Lakeland last night (Feb. 16) in the FHSAA Class 3A-Region 2 quarterfinals.
The Lions defeated the Hawks, 81-70.
The Lions were led in scoring by Jermaine Council (’24) with 30 points and Javian Jones (’25) with 28 points (11-for-12 from the field). They also got a big game from James Shoenfelt (’23), who had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Hawks were led by Aiden Jones (’23) with 20 points.

The Loveland Athletic Center was packed for last night’s matchup. The student sections for both teams were charged up and ready for a great game, and it certainly did not disappoint.
At the end of the first quarter, both teams were tied 21-21. Council led the Lions with five points, and Ezequiel Munoz (’23) led the Hawks with eight points.
Going into halftime, the Lions managed to support a close 37-33 lead over the Hawks. Jones and Council both scored six points, while Munoz scored five points.
In the beginning of the third quarter, Council scored his 1,000th career point on a deep 3 pointer (assist from Ransom Soles (’24)).
Throughout this quarter, Jones caught on fire, knocking down all of his shots and scoring 11 points. Tate Darner (’25) led the Hawks with six points (2-for-2 from 3).
Santa Fe cut the King’s lead down to 58-54 at the end of the third quarter.

During the fourth quarter, both teams exchanged deadly game-changing blows. Council led the Lions with 17 fourth quarter points, while Darner led the Hawks with six points.
At the end of the game, The King’s Academy Lions defeated the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks by 11 points.
The King’s Academy (26-1; No. 3 seed) will next play on the road against Bell Creek Academy (Windermere) (24-4; No. 2 seed) on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the 3A-Region 2 semifinal round at 7 p.m.
