Wichita, KS – In round one of March Madness we had the Dawgs vs the Dawgs and this one was fairly one-sided. The Zags game out and controlled the lead throughout the while first half. Gonzaga shot 8-11 from deep in the first half, compared to UGA’s 1-13.
The Zags’ defense and transition game were also in full effect as they scored 20 points off turnovers, compared to the Dawgs’ 2, leading them to a 21-point advantage. Teams leading by 20+ are 191-0 and Gonzaga continued the trend.
Georgia was able to get a little bit of offense going to start the half, but they couldn’t stop Gonzaga consistently. Braden Huff’s rebounding was key in stealing possessions. The rout continued throughout the rest of the second half. Georgia finished 35% from the field and 19% from three, and Gonzaga55% and 60%, respectively.
Khalif Battle led Gonzaga with 24 points, along with 18 each from Nolan Hickman and Braden Huff. Asa Newell led Georgia with 20
The Zags will advance to play against #1 Houston in a game that a lot of bracket fillers have them winning. Will they have another dominant performance, or not be able to handle the Cougars?
