PLANTATION, FL – Tonight an anticipated showdown was brewing in Plantation as American Heritage looked to get back in the win column after losing to Chaminade a couple of week prior, Gibbons however was looking for an upset win over the nationally ranked Patriots.

Heritage wasted no time getting on the board as Dia Bell found Zamarii Sanders with a deep pass in open coverage as Heritage stormed off with a quick 7-0 lead. Heritage also let their dominant running back room put itself on display again as utility man Chance Washington barreled up the middle of the offensive line to put the Patriots up by two touchdowns, however, Gibbons came up with a block on the PAT to give Heritage a 13-0 lead. Gibbons would then respond to the deficit by a check down pass to Cedric Wyche with 37 seconds left in the 1st. It looked like we would have a close game on our hands. However, Heritage immediately responded with a big rushing play from Deandre Desinor to put the Patriots up 20-7.

In the 2nd quarter Heritage put three touchdowns on the board, including a blocked punt to end the half. Taking a commanding 41-7 lead.

After a relatively quiet 3rd quarter and beginning part of the 4th, Chance Washington would score his 2nd rushing touchdown of the day to put American Heritage in the lead and start the running clock. Heritage would win the game 48-7. What was a very anticipated matchup between two high caliber teams turned into a brutal beatdown by the Patriots, sending a message to the rest of South Florida saying “we might’ve been down but we are back now.”

After the game, Coach Smith spoke to the team with some fiery words of inspiration and a slight dig to the other team. “They had seven because of us” said Smith, “we only had 48 because of us”, Smith would add. Heritage moves on to be 3-1 in the season and will travel to Western to take on Davi Belfort and the Wildcats next week. As for Gibbons, they fall to 3-2 on the season and look to bounce back against Belen Jesuit on the road next week.
