PORT ST. LUCIE – In our flashback moment of glory with the Treasure Coast Titans, it is time to give this team their flowers.
Led by Coach of Week 4 Irvin Jones, our No. 5-ranked team in the Treasure Coast area is 1-3 at this time. But it is a strong 1-3 record because of the level of competition this collective has been playing so far this season.
Name a team in the Treasure Coast area that has played the likes of Osceola (Kissimmee), Jesuit (Tampa), and Seminole (Sanford) in the season’s first three weeks – all on the road.
Besides this year’s Treasure Coast Titans team, it does not exist.
So after suffering losses to Osceola (14-5 in Week 1), Jesuit (14-13 in Week 2), and Seminole (41-22 in Week 3), it was time for the Titans to dominate upstart District 12-4S rival Martin County (3-1) in multiple phases of the game.
They did so in just one half of play at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce to become the kings of Week 4.
HOW THE TITANS GOT IT DONE
Friday, September 16, 2022 would be a night to remember for the Titans in more ways than one.
After giving up a 62-yard touchdown pass from Martin County quarterback Jayden Vega to tight end Nick Roebas-Bass and an extra point to kicker John Connolly, Treasure Coast was down 7-0 at the 10:18 mark of the first quarter.
Looking at an insurmountable 0-4 record – this sure seemed to be possible in the early going – Treasure Coast tightened up quickly from there and took the game in its own way.
All four of Treasure Coast’s touchdowns were on the ground, including the first two from running back/quarterback George Roberts III.
Our MVP of Week 4 led the Titans with 12 carries for 100 yards and the two scores, including a 20-yarder to the house at the 4:04 mark of the first quarter.
Both Roberts rushing touchdowns occurred in the first quarter, with the second one giving the Titans a 14-7 lead over the Tigers.
“George earned MVP,” said Treasure Coast junior athlete Jamison Davis, who earned our Breakthrough Player of Week 4 honor.
“Ever since the first day football started back, his work ethic been amazing,” Davis continued. “He’s always willing to help out his teammates and help them get better. He’s stepped up as a leader and learned how to keep his teammates encouraged. He’s seen his mistakes and fixed them. He really worked hard to earn that MVP.”
Speaking of Davis, his breakout moment came in the second quarter. From the Martin County 26-yard line, he made a burst run past the opposition to reach the end zone with 10:05 left in the second quarter.
At that point, Treasure Coast extended its lead to 21-7.
“Feels good to be back,” said Davis, who returned to action from an ACL injury. “First game. I’ll say I had a good game. But there’s still more space for improvement.”
The game’s final score came from Treasure Coast senior running back and Jupiter transfer Emonte Brown, who blew past the opposition untouched for a blistering 68-yard touchdown run with 4:52 left in the second quarter.
Davis spoke on our Offensive Player of Week 4.
“Emonte is a great piece of our offense, making big plays and keeping his composure,” Davis said of Brown, who had six carries for 87 yards and the touchdown. “When things are not going our way, he keeps everyone going and gives everyone a good time with no problems. Just like George, he has a great work ethic and is a leader of the team.”
The 28 points that Treasure Coast scored in the first half were not just the touchdowns. There were four points made from special teams, coming from junior kicker and Special Teams Player of Week 4 Manuel German.
“He’s 100 percent,” Davis said of German, who was 4-for-4 on his extra point attempts last week. “He helps us out a lot. Without him, our offense would have to keep trying to convert two-point conversions. With his kickoffs, he helps our defense get good field position, so our offense can come back and not have to go that far.”
German on his performance against Martin County:
“With the help of my teammates, I was able to perform and help the team out the most I could,” German said. “I wouldn’t be able to do it without the blocks, snaps, and holds.”
TRENCH HEROES
We have two more Week 4 winners to highlight.
Treasure Coast junior defensive tackle Jahari Grant was our Defensive Player of Week 4. Through his sheer domination in the trenches, Grant finished last week’s action with four tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.
“I played a good game,” Grant said. “I wish we could’ve finished it. But overall, it was a good half.”
Treasure Coast senior lineman Corey McIntyre had the game’s most significant play. The Lineman of Week 4 and West Virginia verbal commit had a huge first down run on an end around play, which set up the 20-yard scoring run from Roberts.
Grant recapped Week 4 for Treasure Coast.
“Feels great,” Grant said. “Me and my brothers worked hard for it.”
As a result, Treasure Coast earned our Team of Week 4 and capped our Week 4 superlative honors with a Titan Born Titan Bred sweep.
PLEASE NOTE: The next two games for Treasure Coast (1-0 in District 12-4S play) are in Week 5 against Class 3M favorite and powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas (Friday, Sept. 23; 7 pm kickoff at South County Stadium in Port St. Lucie) and in Week 6 at Class 1M favorite Chaminade-Madonna (Friday, Sept. 30; 7 pm kickoff).
