Boca Raton head coach Meg Wells would speak on her track and field program’s conference championship.

“I think that this year my team had more drive and commitment than prior years,” Wells said.
“It is my fourth year as head coach for the boys and girls, and we are still in the building phase of the program. But we are getting better and better. This is their second time winning the conference since I have been head coach. Last year our girls’ team missed it by two points. We were runner-up in the district last year.”

Winning the conference was especially rewarding this year since both teams won.

“We have a lot of depth in the team and a good mixture of ages,” Wells said. “Although we switched to a different district this year, I expect to have a lot of success and a lot of personal records set. I measure my success as a coach by school records we make. I hope to continue to set new standards and break school records as we come into the competition phase of the season.”

Wells went on to give some special recognition to some of her developing athletes, starting with Carson Lyttle.

“I am very impressed with the performance of Carson this season in the 1600 & 3200,” she said. “He has gotten out of his comfort zone and now realizes there is no holding him back. He is a force to be reckoned with as we enter the districts. Carson is a senior and would like to run in college. He has always excelled in running but has taken it to a new level this year. I would tell any college coach that has a spot left on their squad to snatch him up. Not only is he an excellent athlete, but he is a stellar academic student as well.”

Wells raved about Carson’s brother, Cade Lyttle.

“Cade, a freshman, is fast on his brother’s heels,” the Boca Raton track coach said. “He and Sergio Esquivel are my up and coming freshman boys distance standouts.”

It wasn’t all about the boys.

“On the girls team I’d like to recognize Likendia Desire, Amelia Zook, Lauren Miller and Pia Beaulieu,” Wells said. “Pia is a freshman who is one of those rare athletes with exceptional natural ability, drive, and determination to win. You will see her at states this year, I’m sure. In all my years of coaching, I’ve not met any as gifted as she is.”
