DELRAY BEACH – Delray Beach native and New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith hosted his third annual free youth football camp at Pompey Park on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The camp experience, titled Tre’Quan Smith Weekend, featured a meet-and-greet the night before the camp, which was followed by football drills, fellowship, lunch catered by Atlantic Ave. Chick-fil-A, and “Fun Time” in the park.
“I love coming back and seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces, just seeing them have fun and seeing them interact with who I grew up with from high school and played with from college and now my NFL friends,” Smith said.
Smith acknowledged he couldn’t host without his team, which is composed of his former coaches, sponsors, friends, and teammates. He expressed his gratitude to everyone involved with Tre’Quan Smith Foundation.
“They’re my support system,” Smith said. “Knowing their impact on my life and molding me into the young man I grew up to be, hopefully, they can have that same effect on these young kids.”
Two of his teammates accompanied him in this year’s extravaganza. Smith’s special guests were fellow New Orleans Saints wide receiver Kawaan Baker and now-Denver Broncos wide receiver Marquez Callaway.
Tre’s Weekend in the City began at a Meet-and-Greet at Delray Beach Boxing Gym featuring John Louis, Smith’s close friend who helped start his foundation. Smith joined friends, family, and locals who came out to have their shirts and footballs autographed while taking photos. He also presented several checks to local student community centers in Delray Beach.
The Village Academy alum was ecstatic to host at a place where he once played the game of football as a kid. Children of all ages completed Smith’s camp, run by many Delray coaches.
The kids stuck through all drills and ended their give-back day with video game trucks, bubbles, and treats. Smith added that he would continue to have summer camps as long as possible.
“Thankful to be in this position,” Smith said. “I will give back to the community as much as I can, and I’m happy the community loves me back.”
Smith will start his sixth year in the NFL with the Saints. As for the city of Delray Beach, locals continue to support Smith in his NFL journey.
