Tulsa’s Ian Smikle Enters Transfer Portal, Leaves Door Open for Return

Tulsa forward Ian Smikle has officially announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal following two seasons with the program, signaling a potential new chapter in his college basketball career.

In a message addressed to the Tulsa community, Smikle expressed gratitude for his time with the Golden Hurricane, thanking his coaches, teammates, and supporters for their role in his development both on and off the court.

“First, I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and everyone at Tulsa for the opportunity over the past two years,” Smikle shared. “I’ve grown a lot on and off the court and will always be grateful for that experience. ”

The 6-foot-5 wing, who wore Number 35, emphasized that the decision came after “careful thought and prayer, ” noting that while he is entering the portal, a return to Tulsa has not beencompletely ruled out.

“This wasn’t an easy decision the door is not closed on a return,” Smikle added. “But I’m excited for what’s ahead and ready to bring my work ethic, leadership, and impact to the next program. ”

Smikle’s departure places him among a growing list of players exploring new opportunities this offseason as the transfer portal continues to reshape college basketball rosters nationwide.

Known for his energy, versatility, and leadership, he is expected to draw interest from multiple programs looking to add experience and depth on the wing.

As he evaluates his next move, Smikle remains focused on the future.
