CORAL GABLES – Travis Homer is projected by most analysts and scouts as an NFL Draft pick next month.
The former Miami starting running back and Oxbridge Academy alum did not run the 40-yard dash at University of Miami’s Pro Day on Monday (Mar. 25). There was no need to do so because he ran a stellar 4.48 40 time at the NFL Combine last month.
However, Homer did himself a big service by performing the three-cone drill in style, while showing off his display of agility and athleticism in a series of positional drills.
The camp hero also caught several short-to-medium range passes from former Hurricanes quarterback and now-alum Malik Rosier. This helped the scores of NFL evaluators gauge how much of an asset he can be in the passing game on the next level.
Homer wasn’t available to the media for an interview session afterward. This could be the last time we see him in any kind of action prior to the NFL draft (Apr. 25-27; Nashville, Tenn.).
To sum it all up, Homer has likely done enough to be selected as a mid-to-late round draft pick.
As for Langham, he may have earned himself some interest from several NFL teams for a possible NFL rookie minicamp spot, which normally begins the week after the seven-round draft reaches its conclusion.
The 6-4, 220-pound wide receiver, who is a Boynton Beach native and Santaluces alum, did 12 reps on the bench and ran the 40 in 4.58 seconds. Langham’s 40 time for his size may open things up for NFL teams to experiment with him at tight end.
Speaking of the tight end position, the Miami coaching staff had considered moving Langham there at some point in his collegiate career. But after evaluating him up close, they felt he would help the team best as a wide receiver.
Langham showed scouts why he could be a sleeper wideout or tight end in some of the Pro Day drills. He caught several intermediate and long passes from Rosier in space, with one of them being a highlight reel-type grab that featured him stretching his arms out for the ball.
“Most of the passes Malik threw to me were pinpoint,” Langham said. “They got to me, but I adjusted late to some of them. I got to chase it and go out there to catch it with my fingertips. It helped a lot.”
Langham spoke on his thoughts about being considered for the NFL Draft. He said he doesn’t know if he will get drafted in any of the seven rounds.
“I’m not sure,” said Langham, who will reportedly work out with the Miami Dolphins in South Florida for an evaluation on Friday, Apr. 5. “But if any team picks me, I’ll work my ass off for them either way.”
Langham, who finished his collegiate career at Miami with 24 receptions for 363 yards and five touchdowns, will always be remembered for his heroic game-winning catches against Florida State and Georgia Tech as a redshirt junior in 2017.
Langham summed up his time at Miami.
“It has been really good to me,” said Langham, who plans to spend the NFL Draft weekend with his family back home in Boynton Beach. “I went through a lot of ups and downs, but I feel like they helped me become the person who I am today. It will push me forward into the future. I can fight through anything, pretty much.”
