Fast Start for Team USA
Team USA wasted no time taking control of the game. Team captain Aaron Judge energized the crowd with a two-run home run in the first inning, giving the United States an early lead. The blast came in Judge’s first-ever at-bat in the tournament and set the tone for the American offense.
The U.S. lineup continued to produce throughout the game. Brice Turang had one of the biggest performances of the night, going 3-for-6 with four RBIs, while Roman Anthony added multiple hits and runs scored to keep the pressure on Brazil’s pitching staff.
Strong Pitching from the United States
On the mound, Logan Webb delivered a solid outing for the United States. The right-hander pitched four innings, striking out six batters while allowing only one run, helping the Americans build an early advantage. Brazil struggled with control issues, issuing numerous walks that allowed the U.S. offense to capitalize and extend the lead.
Brazil Shows Fight
Despite the loss, Brazil showed flashes of power. Outfielder Lucas Ramirez, the son of former MLB star Manny Ramirez, had an impressive game with two home runs, briefly helping Brazil close the gap to 8–5 late in the game. However, any comeback hopes were erased when Team USA exploded for seven runs in the ninth inning, turning a competitive game into a decisive victory.
Looking Ahead
The win gave the United States a 1–0 record in Pool B and strengthened its status as one of the favorites to win the tournament. Team USA will continue pool play with upcoming matchups against Great Britain, Mexico, and Italy as they pursue another World Baseball Classic title.
The World Baseball Classic 2026 began with an exciting matchup as the United States national baseball team faced the Brazil national baseball team in Pool B play on March 6 in Houston, Texas. Team USA delivered a powerful performance, defeating Brazil 15–5 to open the tournament with a convincing victory.
