LANTANA – Will Prichard has been on the college recruiting circuit ever since he was a freshman at King’s Academy.
As the 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback saw his stock rise over the past few years, the 247Sports.com three-star turned out to be one of the most sought-after players at his position in all of South Florida.
Then not long after his junior season ended at King’s Academy, Prichard made a transfer move to Santaluces.
New Chiefs head coach Hector Clavijo broke down how Prichard’s recruiting process has been going.
“You get a lot offers as a young player with a lot of potential,” said Clavijo, who was previously the head coach at Champagnat Catholic (Hialeah) before coming over to Santaluces earlier this year.
“But things change as college coaches have been moving around,” Clavijo continued. “Half of them want a pocket passer, but half of them want a dual-threat passer. It becomes a numbers game. But it just takes one college to fall in love with you.”
At this time, Prichard has a preferred walk-on offer from Florida, which he just picked up earlier today (July 12). He spoke on what it means to him.
“It feels amazing,” said Prichard, who plans to visit the SEC school later this month. “I can’t wait to get up there and see what they are about. They are leading my recruitment now.”
Prichard has a total of 14 offers right now. But even though Florida is in the lead for his collegiate services, all schools are still in play.
“It’s still open,” Prichard said of his overall recruiting process.
Expect Prichard to take his time before making his final college football decision. After all, he has other offers from the likes of Buffalo and East Carolina, to name just two.
What colleges are looking for is game film from Prichard at Santaluces, which is a Class 4M program.
Prichard’s spring scrimmage was a start. He spoke on how the May 14 outing went for himself and his team as a whole.
“The spring scrimmage was definitely different from what I am used to because I haven’t played one since my freshman year due to Covid-19,” Prichard said. “But overall I thought it was a very good experience. We had a great turnout with the fans. The offense did things well and we also did things that we need to work on, but as a team I thought overall we competed. The main thing that we needed to show was a great level of competition because it only will make us better.”
Clavijo spoke on how Prichard has proven to be an asset to the Santaluces high school football program.
“The kid is a stud,” Clavijo said. “He’s a phenomenal leader who doesn’t miss a workout. He’s one of the hardest workers we have. His recruiting process has been different. He’s not the biggest or fastest guy out there, but he can sling it. He’s an in-between kind of guy who is at a public school now. I think he will be in great position.”
Prichard spoke on his own expectations for his final high school football season this fall at Santaluces.
“Expect us to compete and have a lot of fun while we’re doing it,” Prichard said. “You can expect for me to give it all I have on the field for my team and help us win games. I’m gonna put up a lot of numbers.”
Clavijo concurred.
“I told him (Will) to just be patient and love the game,” Clavijo said. “He just needs to love his teammates and be a team guy. With him as our quarterback, we have the talent to be the top team in Palm Beach County and the top South Florida program in our classification. We want to win right now.”
