PALM BEACH COUNTY – After a long offseason because of the COVID-19 virus, public school high school football is back in Palm Beach County.

Although the games will be the same, the season will look different. Schedules have been cut in half and games will be played in central locations at Boca Raton High School, Wellington High School, and Jupiter High School.

To open up the campaign, three games will take place today (Oct. 30) at these three locations. The rest of the public schools will play tomorrow at these central locations, with games being played back-to-back-to-back.

SOUTH COUNTY OPENER: Boca Raton (0-0) vs. Boynton Beach (0-0) at Boca High – 6 p.m. kickoff

Boca Raton will look to build off a promising 2019 season that saw them make the FHSAA Class 8A playoffs, where it fell to Vero Beach on the road in the first round.

Bobcats senior defensive end Ashton Gillotte returns after committing to Louisville in the offseason and will help his team looking to keep the momentum into 2020.

Meanwhile, Boynton Beach finished last season hot, winning its two final games to finish with a 4-5 record.

The Tigers will look to build off those final wins against West Boca and Lake Worth into 2020, even if the season looks different.

Score prediction: 35-17 win for Boca Raton

WEST COUNTY OPENER: Wellington (0-0) vs. Royal Palm Beach (0-0) at Wellington High – 6 p.m. kickoff

Last season was not an easy one for head coach Tom Abel and Wellington.

The Wolverines finished last season with a 3-7 record on a tough schedule, which featured games against Palm Beach Gardens, Forest Hill, and Palm Beach Central.

Highlighted by quarterback Peyton Mainolfi, Royal Palm Beach finished last season with a 6-4 record but still missed out on the playoffs.

Now a senior, Mainolfi will look to cement himself as one of the county’s best quarterbacks, all while navigating Royal Palm’s offense.

Score prediction: 32-27 win for Royal Palm Beach

WARRIORS OPENER: Jupiter vs. John I. Leonard at Jupiter High – 6 p.m. kickoff

Jupiter finished last season with a 6-4 record, capped off with a huge win over South Fork to end the season. The home team is headlined by senior Cristian Orth, who is one of the best defensive linemen in the county.

John I. Leonard is currently going through a rebuild, but head coach Keith Chattin and his team has shown promise.

The Lancers will look to build off a tough 2-8 season, which featured wins over West Boca and Spanish River.

Score prediction: 28-10 win for Jupiter
