DELRAY BEACH – Kyle Boone had perhaps his most impactful performance to date in last week’s Class 4A-Region 4 quarterfinal playoff game against Avon Park.
In American Heritage’s 42-0 road win over Avon Park on Nov. 13, the senior linebacker recorded 14 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one interception returned for a touchdown. His score came during the first drive of the second half.
“I had man coverage on the running back and saw him flare out, so I followed him and looked up,” said Boone, who was a nominee for our MVP of Week 10. “The ball was right there.”
Boone (6-foot-1, 216 pounds) has made the most of his senior year at American Heritage (Delray Beach). He is a Park Vista transfer who has added a dimension of football intelligence and leadership in seven games played this fall.
“Kyle Boone is a very instinctual player,” American Heritage head coach Nick Martinez said. “He is one of the main reasons we have pitched two straight shutouts.”
Boone recapped his individual performance from an overall standpoint.
“I feel as if it was a good one,” Boone said of the Avon Park game. “I helped shut out their offense and even put some points on the board. I was able to do my job. There’s always room for more improvement though.”
Boone (No. 2 outside linebacker; No. 20 overall player in Palm Beach County) looks to take his game even further tonight (Nov. 20; 7:30 p.m. kickoff) against Lemon Bay. He has a chance to help his team potentially advance to the Class 4A-Region 4 finals next week (Nov. 27).
American Heritage (Delray Beach) (3-3) is favored to beat Lemon Bay (8-1) by six points in tonight’s Class 4A-Region 4 semifinal, according to the Joe Pinkos Forecast.
“Definitely see it as an opportunity,” said Boone, who has four offers from Cornell, Davidson, Findlay, and Valparaiso. “We have the chance to make a run for states, so we’re gonna use it as motivation to get there.”
