DELRAY BEACH – This has been the most impactful week to date for KJ Stewart.
When American Heritage (Delray Beach) took the stage on its home field against Lemon Bay, the junior athlete made sure to take advantage of his opportunities on the field.
In doing so, the 6-foot-1, 167-pound standout recorded two tackles and a key interception to help his team walk away with a 49-7 win in the Class 4A-Region 4 semifinals on Friday, Nov. 20.
Stewart’s pick happened during the second quarter, which at the time was a 27-7 lead for American Heritage.
For his effort on the field, Stewart has been selected as our Week 11 Honorable Mention on defense.
“Well throughout practice that week, we’ve been going over their route concepts,” Stewart said. And from film study that week, I knew the quarterback would try to get a deep ball in the middle of the field and try to change the momentum of the game.”
Stewart delved a little deeper into how his interception came about.
“I was looking at the quarterback the whole time and he was staring that receiver down,” Stewart said. “He threw it up and I just jumped it. I knew it was coming before it happened.”
Next game for Stewart and American Heritage (Delray Beach) (4-3): Home tonight (Nov. 27) at 7:30 p.m. vs. Cardinal Gibbons (5-1) in the Class 4A-Region 4 finals
