DELRAY BEACH – Dylan Rizk had the best high school football performance of his career to date last week (Nov. 20).
As American Heritage (Delray Beach) took the field at home against Lemon Bay in the Class 4A-Region 4 semifinals, the sophomore quarterback carved up Lemon Bay’s defense by completing 18 of his 23 passes for a whopping 480 yards and five touchdowns. He added a sixth score on the ground in a totally dominant effort.
With 6:56 left in the first quarter, Rizk connected with senior wide receiver and FAU verbal commit Brandon Schabert for a 31-yard touchdown pass. This gave American Heritage a 7-0 lead.
Later in the first half, Rizk capitalized on a lost fumble by Lemon Bay. He did it by taking the ball to the end zone on a 6-yard quarterback keeper run at the 9:58 mark. This gave American Heritage a 21-7 lead.
And to close out the first half, Rizk found Schabert for another score. His 35-yard touchdown strike to Palm Beach County’s No. 1-ranked wide receiver gave the Stallions a 34-7 halftime lead.
Schabert finished the game with six catches for 195 yards and three touchdowns. It was by far the best individual performance of the Owls commit’s high school football career.
The second half was more of the same for Rizk. He developed some nice connections with senior wideout Mathew Hall, who is our Breakthrough Player of Week 11.
Rizk found Hall for a 10-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-and-7 play with 1:49 left in the third quarter. This gave American Heritage a 43-7 lead and sent the rest of the game to a running clock.
“Dylan has been phenomenal and playing the best ball,” American Heritage senior defensive lineman Earl Miller said. “He’s one of the best underclassmen in the state.”
Stallions sophomore athlete Desean Butler chimed in.
“Dylan is a phenomenal leader on and off the field,” Butler said. “He motivates both sides of the ball, and even in the group chats he texts, ‘Let’s come out all week and practice with energy and effort.’ He’s been playing very well the past few games. He plays every game like his life depends on it, and that’s what we need from him.”
Butler summed up Rizk’s effort from last week.
“Against Lemon Bay, he was one of the main reasons we succeeded very well,” Butler said. “And with us having our phenomenal coaching staff, those two are a very scary mix.”
