Week 3 Top 10 team rankings: No. 1 carousel continues

NEP Team

PALM BEACH COUNTY – It is quite obvious that no top spot is safe for any team right now.

First was Atlantic. Next was Palm Beach Gardens.

And now we have a third team that will surely lose the No. 1 spot.

Glades Central was poised to be Palm Beach County’s best overall team for at least a good portion of this season. Of course, that is still possible considering the fact we are only just getting past Week 3.

But it is not possible now.

Glades Central’s 33-14 home loss to Atlantic ensured that our second No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup of this season would be the same outcome as the first one.

Speaking of Atlantic, it has been on both sides of the 1-2 matchup – a loser as a No. 1 and a winner as a No. 2.

Translation: A No. 2 is now 2-0 against a No. 1 head-to-head in 2021.

Another translation: A No. 2 is 2-for-2 in becoming a No. 1 for the next week.

So there you have it. For this week at least, Atlantic has returned to its familiar No. 1 spot.

This happens even as another team had a viable case for the No. 1 spot.

Speaking of this week’s No. 2 team, Palm Beach Central blew out its opponent in Week 3. A 48-21 road win over Boca Raton ensured that this uber-talented collective is going to be at or near the top spot all season long.

With Glades Central dropping from No. 1 to No. 3, the rest of this week’s Top 10 is relatively steady.

Due to the fact that No. 4 Palm Beach Gardens and No. 8 Dwyer have not finished their Week 3 rivalry clash – it has been rescheduled to continue on Monday, Sept. 20 at 4:30 p.m. – we cannot make any changes right now.

If the game was called due to lightning, Dwyer would have walked away with a 7-0 home win over Palm Beach Gardens. But according to multiple sources, this game will continue with 6:22 left in the fourth quarter and with Gardens in Dwyer territory for a chance to tie, take the lead, and/or eventually win it.

With that said, the only other change happens at the 9-10 positions, as Park Vista enjoyed its bye week and watched Cardinal Newman drop a 24-7 home decision to Benjamin.

As a result, Cardinal Newman drops from
No. 9 to No. 10. This happens even as it has a losing record at 1-2.

NOTE: Everyone needs to watch out for Park Vista, which could easily win its next few games and set itself up for a huge opportunity early next month.
