PALM BEACH GARDENS – The Benjamin Buccaneers have a lot of young talent on their roster.

Led by freshman quarterback Tyler Aronson and freshman running back Chauncey Bowens, the
home team was in good hands throughout their opener on Friday, Oct. 2 against Archbishop McCarthy. The two budding freshmen accounted for five of the seven touchdowns in a completely dominating 49-0 win for Benjamin (1-1).

In just his second start, Aronson was firing on all cylinders, as he completed 10 of 11 passes (90.9 percent) for 194 yards and two touchdowns. All of his action came in the first half, which included a 29-yard touchdown pass to sophomore athlete Micah Mays Jr. in the early going and a 57-yard scoring connection with sophomore Darrell Sweeting in the second quarter.

By the time Aronson was done with his production on the field, Benjamin had already taken a 35-0 lead.

“Tyler played great,” Bowens said. “He came out and executed by playing behind our great o-line. He showed the potential of a special quarterback.”

Aronson spoke on his outstanding performance.

“It feels really good, especially with all the work I’ve put in the weight room and with my wide receivers,” the 6-foot-2, 200-pound starting quarterback said over the weekend. “And coming back from a loss from last week and redeeming myself this week felt great.”

Three of Benjamin’s scores in the first half were produced by Bowens, who finished with 10 carries for 125 yards. His best one might have been the game’s exclamation point, when he busted past the Mavericks line for an easy 20-yard rushing score that gave the Buccaneers a 42-0 lead with 19.3 seconds left in the half.

“I’m just getting started,” the 6-foot, 209-pound running back said.

The game’s other two scores came from senior linebacker Luke Cannata, who reached the end zone on a fumble recovery in the first half. And playing as the team’s backup quarterback in the second half, he accounted for the game’s final score as he ran in a 23-yarder to the end zone at the 5:43 mark of the third quarter.

“I think our whole team was clicking,” Cannata said.
