PALM BEACH COUNTY – The high school football regular season for our area’s private schools is almost over.

After almost a full season of games, six teams are capable of being ranked for five spots.

This week, we will have a new No. 1 team.

After American Heritage’s loss to Clewiston, the Stallions drop out of the top spot. The Stallions spot will be replaced by either Cardinal Newman or King’s Academy, the two deserving teams.

In our rankings, Cardinal Newman jumps into the spot over King’s Academy. So far, Cardinal Newman has had a harder schedule than King’s Academy, giving them a slight edge.

1. Cardinal Newman (4-2) [Last week: 3] – Our new No. 1 team, Cardinal Newman has won four of its last five games, including wins over Belen Jesuit and King’s Academy. The run does not get any easier, as the Crusaders will meet American Heritage-Delray Beach this week.

2. King’s Academy (4–1) [Last week: 2] – The Lions have won three games against Palm Beach County opponents, including a win over St. John Paul II.

3. American Heritage (Delray Beach) (1-3) [Last week: 1] – American Heritage-Delray has not had an easy run this season, playing multiple top opponents during its first four games. This week, the Stallions will look to recapture their top spot as they face off against Cardinal Newman.

4. St. John Paul II (4-2) [Last week: 4] – A 4-2 record is an early success for St. John Paul II, which has a chance to build upon with one regular season game remaining. Keep an eye on the Eagles, who can finish with five wins as they go into the Class 3A playoffs next week.

5. Boca Raton Christian (4-2) [Last week: 5] – It’s time to give credit where credit is due. Boca Raton Christian has had a strong season, but hasn’t been in the spotlight often.

Last week, Boca Raton Christian defeated Somerset Academy (Pembroke Pines), 40-14. This places an exclamation point on an already strong season.

Close to 5: Jupiter Christian (3-3)
