WEST PALM BEACH – King’s Academy had an outstanding defensive performance in its 44-7 home win last Friday night (Oct. 23) over Jupiter Christian.

The Lions (No. 2; Palm Beach County private school rankings; 4-1 record) limited the Eagles (3-3) to 142 total yards and six first downs. They also forced two turnovers, both of which were interceptions by their defense.

The King’s Academy’s defense is led by the duo of senior linebacker Stenton Quaye and junior linebacker Stephen Scroggins, who also happens to be our Week 7 Honorable Mention pick on that side of the ball.

Scroggins recorded a team-high six tackles and one tackle for loss in his team’s 37-point win over Jupiter Christian.

“It really was our defensive line that dominated,” said the 6-foot-2, 212-pound linebacker, who referred to the group of Zakaih Saez, Kechawn Eduard, Kyle Garcia, and Andrew Pankey.

“I had a decent game,” Scroggins continued. “I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I’m getting better each week. We had a great week of practice last week, which carried over to the game. I’m super proud of my guys for the way they all played.”

Quaye chimed in.

“He (Stephen) played really well,” said Quaye, who himself recorded three tackles and one tackle for loss last week against Jupiter Christian. “He was all over the place all night. We had a great game plan going in and with the defensive line playing well, he came out with a great performance.”

In five games played this season, Scroggins has tallied 45 tackles (eight TFL’s), four sacks, two forced fumbles, and one safety. He and his team has one more regular season game left, which comes at home this Friday night (Oct. 30, 7 p.m.) against the Benjamin Buccaneers (1-3).

“Just getting prepped for the Benjamin game right now,” Scroggins said. “We have to lock in for another week and keep getting better.”
