BOCA RATON – Ashton Gillotte has a chance to end his high school football career as a champion in more ways than one.
The Boca Raton senior defensive end (No. 2-ranked DE & overall player in Palm Beach County) helped his team score a 24-0 home victory over Coral Gables this past Friday night (Dec. 11). He recorded at least five sacks and at least five tackles for loss on defense, while adding a blocked field goal attempt on special teams and a rushing touchdown on offense to preserve the shutout win.
Gillotte spoke on how the Bobcats (5-1; No. 2 seed in 8A Silver playoff bracket) earned their way to the 8A Silver title game, which will be held on Saturday (Dec. 19; 3 p.m. kickoff against No. 1 seed Palm Beach Gardens) at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami.
“I don’t really know how to describe it,” the 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end said. “It was kind of just our time. We put in the work all week under our great coaching staff, and I think the team really bought in to the message our coaches were pushing.”
Gillotte had more to say about the playoff win over Coral Gables.
“On game night, it was just what can I do to be the best for my brothers so we can win,” Gillotte said. “So I mean hyping them up, shoving them around a bit, and refocusing them were important to me for this rather young team since our school doesn’t have much playoff experience. Our boys are extremely talented. We just executed in sync with each other on Friday.”
In addition to his Tri-County South Florida postseason run with Boca Raton, Gillotte has a huge day ahead for tomorrow (Dec. 16).
The highly touted college recruit will be inking his letter of intent to Louisville in the morning hours from his home. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are in now, Gillotte and his family has decided to record the momentous occasion and put it out on social media.
Translation: No media or anyone outside the Gillotte inner circle (at the family’s discretion) will be physically present at the Louisville commit’s Early National Signing Day event.
“It’s just going to be an event where our head coach (David Angell) and defense coach (Jared De Freitas) talk and then I will say something,” Gillotte said. “I will have some friends and family. It’s just a different year, so the signing will be at my house due to COVID restrictions.”
PLEASE NOTE: We will find a way to follow up tomorrow with everything that goes on with Gillotte’s signing event.
