WEST PALM BEACH – History was made at Oxbridge Academy this past Saturday (July 23).
For the first time, one of the school’s very own alums hosted a football camp as an NFL player. It was a shining moment for Travis Homer and everyone who has been connected with him throughout his special journey.
The former Oxbridge Academy and Miami running back spoke on the level of support he has had to this point.
“They’re my family, my friends,” Homer said. “They’re gonna stick with you forever.”
The now-Seattle Seahawks running back welcomed a group of young football players to take part in a variety of drills, including ones specifically for the linemen and ones for the skill position players – quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and defensive backs.
It was a refreshing and relaxed two-hour event for Homer and his supports, to say the least.
“It was a great experience,” Homer said. “We had some kids come out here. Everyone out here…they got better.”
Homer spoke on the importance of coming back to his home base in Palm Beach County.
“I want to get back to my roots,” said Homer, who graduated from Oxbridge Academy in 2016. “I was born and raised here. I want to give back to the community as much as I can. I think this is the first step I’m gonna be able to take.”
One beneficiary of Homer’s charitable effort this past weekend is George Roberts III, a Class of 2024 running back from Treasure Coast High School in Port St. Lucie.
“I enjoyed it a lot,” Roberts III said. “I came here to work and obviously, he gave me some inspiration in what he was saying and in the way he was running the drills.”
Roberts III said he was impressed by Homer as both an athlete and a person overall.
“He’s got a really good personality,” Roberts III said. “I like the way he flows with things and how he speaks and talks to us.”
Jayden Roberts, the younger brother of Roberts III, enjoyed his experience as well.
“The camp was good,” said Roberts, who will go into his freshman season this fall at Treasure Coast for the Class of 2026. “It helped me on my linebacker drills. It helped me on my footwork, backpedaling, shuffling. It was getting me right before the season starts.”
As the inaugural Travis Homer Camp reached its conclusion, the fourth-year Seahawks running back and special teams standout had a message for those who attended this year.
“I want to see everyone’s faces here again,” Homer said to the young football players. “Appreciate y’all coming out here.”
