WELLINGTON, FL – Coming off an upset loss against Palm Beach Gardens the week prior, Palm Beach Central had a new task. Retaining the Wellington Cup and coming out on top in Palm Beach County’s premiere rivalry.
Central got the ball rolling early as Leon Williams found the endzone early on to put Central out in front. Wellington responded with a field goal to keep the game close and it looked like we were in for a classic rivalry matchup. Central would find the endzone again in the later part of the 2nd quarter and would begin what would be the start of a huge momentum shift in their favor as Zequan Wright would find the endzone to put Central up 14-3. Moments later, Central would get the ball back on a muffled punt right on Wellington’s doorstep and Zequan Wright would pick up his second rushing touchdown of the night. In the span of four minutes, Central would score three touchdowns, all of them rushing as Leon Williams would grab his second rushing touchdown of the night and Central’s 4th rushing TD as the Broncos went into halftime with a 28-3 lead.

In the 2nd half Central’s passing offense finally heated up after a quiet first half. Caleb Butler would further increase the score gap by hitting Nedrick Boldin on a check down pass to put Central up 35-3. Central would force the running clock at the end of the 3rd quarter as Caleb Butler would hit Miami Hurricane commit Waden Charles for a touchdown pass. With the score at 43-3 it was incredibly clear that Wellington would stay red.

With this win Palm Beach moves on to be 8-1, they will finish their season against Cardinal Newman this weekend in what could be a potential game of the year matchup. For Wellington, they fall to 2-7 on the season, they will finish their season with their homecoming matchup against Seminole Ridge next week.
