With final roster cuts completed yesterday, teams can now claim players and begin filling out their practice squads. One player the Dolphins should consider is cornerback Tyron Herring. The 6’1” defensive back went undrafted in this past draft out of the University of Delaware and initially signed with the Green Bay Packers before being released.
Herring is a South Florida native from Delray Beach, where he starred at Deerfield Beach High School. He began his college career at Dartmouth, earning All-Ivy recognition, before transferring to Delaware. Over five seasons, he appeared in 40 games with 29 starts, becoming a team captain, earning All-CAA honors, and receiving an invitation to the East–West Shrine Bowl.

With Cam Smith placed on the Non-Football Injury list, Herring — who already worked out with Miami during the draft process — would be a strong candidate for the practice squad. His aggressive tackling and ball-hawking ability from his Delaware days make him an intriguing developmental piece in Anthony Weaver’s system. While he primarily played cornerback in college, a potential transition to safety could further unlock his long-term value for the Dolphins.
