DELRAY BEACH – Prior to his senior season, Javone Jackson was relatively unknown.
But over the course of these past several months, the Atlantic wide receiver has done his best to get noticed on the college recruiting front.
For his efforts, Jackson was able to score an offer from Tusculum University. This ultimately resulted in his decision to pledge his verbal commitment recently to the Division II school.
“I love the coaches and the environment,” Jackson said. “It’s a great fit. I’m looking to go play early and take something.”
Jackson had some memorable moments this past season at Atlantic. One of them was in Week 9 of the regular season, when the 5-foot-8, 160-pound wideout caught three passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in his team’s epic 35-21 road win over then-state ranked Columbia (Lake City).
Week 9 may have been Jackson’s best one that actually counted as a senior. But his best one overall was in the spring game against 5A state champion Miami Northwestern, when he caught three passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-10 road win at Traz Powell Stadium.
Jackson, who runs the 40 in 4.5 seconds, had 15 total touchdowns as a senior. The ESPN West Palm Top 63 selection is also viewed as one of the fastest athletes in Palm Beach County, with fellow senior wideout Tyrese Blue confirming that notion.
“He’s dangerous,” Blue said of Jackson, who had an offer from Southern Miss at one point. “He has open field speed and can go from 0-100 in just a few steps. He is one of the few players who will make you pay for letting him get the ball in his possession.”
Jackson’s on-field speed and athleticism will now be put to good use at Tusculum over the next several years. This becomes official once he signs his letter of intent with the Pioneers tomorrow morning (10 a.m. ceremony) at Atlantic High School.
