WEST PALM BEACH – Dorian Jones was thought to be the next stud linebacker to come of Palm Beach County.

But the tide has turned.

The 2019 linebacker, a hard verbal commit to Indiana, has had trouble finding a home to play his final year of high school football since the recent announcement of Oxbridge Academy suspending the 2018-19 football season due to low roster numbers.

The troubles ended when Jones decided to transfer from Oxbridge Academy to American Heritage-Plantation. He enrolled to the Broward County private school today.

It has been a emotional roller coaster for the senior student athlete, to say the least.

“It felt as if there was no loyalty from Oxbridge,” Jones said. “When I used to hear people say ‘football is a business,’ I really didn’t understand that concept until what happened at Oxbridge. I have to do what’s best for me now.”

Jones was one of the key defensive leaders in Oxbridge Academy’s Class 3A state title run. The transfer move comes as a shock after it was rumored the linebacker would be staying in Palm Beach County for his final year of high school football.

Jones will be joining a talented American Heritage-Plantation team that’s led by former NFL standout Patrick Surtain as the head coach. The Patriots went undefeated last year (13-0) and captured their fourth state title in the process.

It’ll be interesting to see what value that Jones will add to the loaded American Heritage-Plantation roster. The Class 5A heavyweight will enter the season as the odds-on favorite to win the state finals once again.
