Former Mizzou edge rusher reloads the elite pass-rush for the Hurricanes defense

Thursday afternoon, former Missouri and Georgia edge rusher Damon Wilson II announced his commitment to the University of Miami, bringing in a high level of pass-rushing to Coral Gables for 2026.

During his 2025 campaign, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end finished with 23 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, along with an interception and fumble recovery. He finished third in the SEC in sacks and led Missouri with 55 pressures during 2025.

Coming off a season where he earned himself a 2nd Team All-SEC nomination, Wilson ranked as the #3 EDGE and #8 overall player in the transfer portal, via 247Sports.

Wilson’s arrival to Coral Gables addresses a big need for the Hurricanes defense, who look to replace the departures of Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor, who are both expected to be first round draft picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Under the coaching of NFL Hall-of-Famer Jason Taylor, Wilson’s addition to this Miami defense should help bolster this defensive front as they aim to get back into the College Football Playoff in 2026.

Miami is also expected to get back guys like Marquise Lightfoot, Armando Blount, Justin Scott, and Ahmad Moten Sr. Together, this group could very well be in line to put together another season of giving opposing quarterbacks nightmares.

As Miami looks to continue to build toward consistent contention, landing experienced talent like Wilson signals Coach Cristobal’s intent for “The U” to stay where it’s at, and continue to dominate on the defensive side of the ball.
