In a high-energy playoff matchup, Christopher Columbus High School delivered a commanding performance, defeating Doral Academy 75–41 to advance in the postseason.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

Columbus wasted no time establishing control, jumping out to an 18–11 lead in the first quarter. Strong defensive pressure and efficient scoring inside gave the Explorers early momentum, forcing Doral Academy to play from behind.

Second Quarter Surge Breaks It Open

The game turned decisively in the second quarter. Columbus outscored Doral 21–8 in the period, heading into halftime with a commanding 39–19 advantage. Miami Commit Forward Caleb Gaskins (#11) was instrumental during the run, knocking down multiple baskets and converting free throws after drawing contact. Akol Nyok (#34) also made his presence felt inside, contributing key baskets and capitalizing at the line. Doral Academy’s offense struggled against Columbus’ defensive intensity, managing only sporadic scoring.

Explorers Stay in Control After the Break

Coming out of halftime, Columbus continued to apply pressure. In the third quarter, they outscored Doral 18–7, extending the lead to 57–26. Jordan Fisher (#3) sparked the offense with a free throw sequence followed by a strong finish at the rim. Nyok continued to dominate in the paint, while Columbus added a three-pointer to stretch the lead even further. Although Doral Academy found brief success from the perimeter including a three-point shot by Moreno and free throws from Bruno Rodriguez (#5) the Firebirds couldn’t slow the Explorers’ offensive rhythm.

Finishing Strong

Columbus closed out the game with another solid quarter, adding 18 more points in the fourth. Contributions from Cello Jackson (#1) and Zeljko Sekulovic (#23) highlighted the team’s depth, while Nicholas Meireles (#15) added a free throw late to cap the scoring. Doral Academy managed 15 points in the final period, but the outcome was never in doubt as Columbus secured the 75–41 victory. Columbus’ defensive pressure, efficient free-throw shooting, and balanced scoring proved too much for Doral Academy. With multiple players contributing double-digit-type production and strong ball movement throughout, the Explorers showcased why they are a serious contender in this year’s playoffs.

The Explorers now move forward with momentum, while the Firebirds conclude their playoff run after a hard-fought season.
