Palo Alto, CA.- It was all Hurricanes on the West Coast as Miami absolutely dismantled Stanford in 45-6 fashion.

For lack of better terms, Miami bullied the Cardinal in each phase of the game all evening. The main engine of the blowout came from the aerial connection between QB Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney. After an off-season surrounded by hype, Miami’s highly touted QB/WR duo formally made their introduction to College Football, and it did not disappoint.

Mensah would throw 27/30 for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns in his inaugural game as a ‘Cane. Darian’s 400 yards would be the most recorded by a Miami QB in their debut, passing Jacory Harris’ 386 vs Florida State in 2009, and Cam Ward’s 385 vs Florida in 2024.

His primary target: Malachi Toney.

The sophomore wideout set the standard for year 2 in the program, being targeted 14 times, hauling in 12 receptions for 234 yards and 3 scores. Toney’s 234 yards set a program record for most receiving yards in a single game, eclipsing Eddie “Downtown” Brown’s 220 yards from a 1984 game vs Boston College.

Malachi’s previous career high was 146 yards during Miami’s victory at Virginia Tech last season. He had 182 yards by halftime.

If tonight was any indication, this is going to be a very fun season for the Miami Hurricanes, with explosive offensive performances ready to be unleashed any given Saturday.
