New Jersey bound: ATH Jashon Benjamin commits to Rutgers

PAHOKEE – Jashon Benjamin has been one of the most sought after 2023 college recruits in Palm Beach County.

The Pahokee senior athlete earned a host of official offers on the table, including the likes of Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State, and Tulane.

One of only a few players in the area to even earn that distinction from his class in early August, it was presumed that the 5-foot-10, 190-pound athlete/running back would possibly choose between one of those three schools.

But few saw Rutgers coming out of the woodwork – and into the driver’s seat for Benjamin’s services.

Rutgers ultimately came out on top in the Jashon Benjamin Sweepstakes as of Wednesday night (Sept. 7).

Benjamin made this official on his Twitter handle by letting everyone know he is New Jersey bound for the next few years ahead.

Pahokee head coach Emmanuel Hendrix spoke on the three-star’s decision to go with Rutgers.

“I am extremely happy and excited about Jashon’s decision to commit to Rutgers last night,” Hendrix said. “I have always told him to love who loves him. Rutgers definitely loves him, and I know he will do some great things there.”

Rutgers must have been quite impressed with Benjamin’s performance from Week 2, in which he accounted for more than 200 total yards and three touchdowns in Pahokee’s 36-31 comeback win over Benjamin.

With that said, Rutgers will be watching closely to see how well our No. 1-ranked athlete and No. 6 overall player in Palm Beach County fares over the course of this season.

“Jashon is have a incredible year so far,” Hendrix said. “I expect him to be over 100 yards in most of our games because he is that special.”
