It is time to kick the 2026 Broward County National High School Football Showcase into high gear.

Fresh off their respective Week 1 victories, Florida-based Chaminade-Madonna and California-based Sierra Canyon are set to battle in the first game of a loaded weekend slate of games. Both teams, whether on offense or defense, have some of the best overall talent in the country

The Lions and Trailblazers are set for a great one on Thursday night, and New Era Prep has you covered with an in-depth game preview. Without further ado, let us dive into it!

Players to Watch: Chaminade

• Brady Quinn, QB: One of the best quarterbacks in the state of Florida, Quinn threw for 314 yards and five touchdowns in Chaminade’s Week 1 win over Monarch. The 2028 prospect was highly accurate and decisive all game, especially on throws over the middle of the field. Quinn’s pocket presence was top-notch, and he showed the arm strength to hit the deep ball at a high level. Facing a Sierra Canyon team with a top-notch defensive line and secondary, Week 2 is Quinn’s biggest test of the season up to this point. If he produces the way I think he can, Quinn can truly cement himself as a top-notch quarterback prospect. I am very excited to see how he fares in this game.
• Peter Pierre, ATH: In their game against Sierra Canyon, Peter Pierre may be the most important player on the field. On offense, Pierre is an offensive force that can make every type of play possible. Against Monarch in Week 1, the elite 2028 prospect had three receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown, which came on a 34-yard play where he outran the entire opposing defense. Defensively, Pierre is a force off the edge for Chaminade; he posted four tackles, one tackle for loss, and multiple pressures against Monarch. Facing a very talented Sierra Canyon offense, the Lions will need Pierre at his best on Thursday to win this game.
• Alexander Beltran, EDGE: To win football games, especially against elite teams, a team needs multiple pass rushers operating at a high level. Alongside Peter Pierre, Alexander Beltran is a key player to watch for Chaminade. Another highly talented 2028 prospect, Beltran was constantly in the backfield against Norland in Week 0 and against Monarch in Week 1. If he can convert some of those pressures into sacks on Thursday, the Lions will have a great shot to win this game.

Players to Watch: Sierra Canyon

• Marcus Fakatou, DL: A true game wrecker on the defensive line, Marcus Fakatou will be looking to make his mark in the Sunshine State for the second year in a row. Committed to Ohio State, the elite 2027 prospect is a force against the run and has a very deep bag as a pass rusher. Fakatou can win in a variety of ways on any given play. With his towering size and impressive overall athletic ability, the defensive lineman can ruin plays by himself. Chaminade will need to account for Fakatou on every play, or else he will have the potential to be a true game wrecker for Sierra Canyon.
• Kasi Currie, DL: The issue with facing Sierra Canyon, though, is that there are multiple elite defensive linemen. Kasi Currie, a Texas commit, is another force to be reckoned with. Ranked now lower than the 10th-best player in California by the three major recruiting services, Currie is listed at 6-feet-6-inches and 305 pounds. Rivals has compared him to former New York defensive lineman Kendrick Ellis, while 24/7 has compared him to Caedan Wallace of the Miami Dolphins. If Chaminade is not locked in with its offensive scheme and its play on the offensive line, Currie, along with Fakatou, could wreak havoc on Thursday night.
• Jaxsen Stokes, RB: Flipping to the offensive side of the ball, Jaxsen Stokes has the ability to exert his will on this game. A University of California commit, Stokes had a touchdown in his team’s first game of the season. He has the burst and speed to make a big impact as a runner or a pass catcher, especially in space. Stokes will be a massive challenge for the Chaminade defense, while he can be a game changer for Sierra Canyon in this matchup. I am very intrigued to see the running back in this game.

Keys to Victory: Chaminade

• Lean on the Playmakers: To win this game, Chaminade is going to need every single piece of their team. Brady Quinn will need to execute the offense at a high level and make some big throws. Tromon Isaac Jr., Ah’Mari Stevens, Peter Pierre, Armani Strong, among others, will have to create seperation against a tough Sierra Canyon secondary. The Lions’ offensive line will have to hold up against the elite Marcus Fakatou and Kasi Currie, both in the run game and as pass blockers. This applies to the defense as well; the defensive line needs to consistently create havoc, while the secondary, led by players like Angelo Smith and Derrick Jones Jr., needs to be at their best. Simply put, Chaminade has the playmakers to win this game if they are at their best.
• Execution and Discipline are Paramount: Facing an elite opponent, Chaminade’s execution and discipline need to be at their best level of the 2026 season. The Lions need to look to avoid mental mistakes and blown assignments, regardless of what side of the ball it is. They must avoid penalties after the whistle. Most importantly, the Lions need to execute their game plan and not try to play outside of themselves. Chaminade has everything they need to win this game, but it is just a matter of getting the job done.

Keys to Victory: Sierra Canyon:

• Dominate the Trenches: A point of emphasis for Sierra Canyon in this game needs to be domination in the trenches. Defensively, the Trailblazers have two elite 2027 defensive line prospects and one of the best players in the 2029 class. They need to emphasize stopping the run to let their star players be star players on passing down situations. Offensively, the Trailblazers’ towering offensive line needs to clear lanes and create time on passing downs, especially when faced with Chaminade’s talented pass rushers. How Sierra Canyon fares in the trenches, whether offensively or defensively, will dictate a large swath of this game.
• Stifle the Chaminade Passing Game: Chaminade is going to want to throw the football a lot in this game. As a result, it will fall to Sierra Canyon’s secondary to be playmakers all night long. Myles Baker, a UCLA commit, and Duvay Williams, a Cal commit, need to step up against the Chaminade weapons. Mykel Ramos and Faruq Muhammad will be relied upon, too. This group has the talent to compete against the Lions’ weapons, but it will be up to them to execute once the lights go on. I am very intrigued to see how the Sierra Canyon secondary performs.
