Florida Atlantic Men’s Basketball landed their third commitment (second of the day) from the transfer portal on Thursday morning. Posted and confirmed by Travis Branham on Twitter/X, the Owls have landed former Loyola Maryland guard Braeden Speed.

Speed is a 6-foot-3 combo guard who should fit quite nicely in FAU’s backcourt next season. He’s coming off an excellent all-around season for the Greyhounds last season, averaging 15.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.0 steal per game with shooting splits of 44% FG and 36% 3PT. He was also named to the All-Patriot League Second Team. The Phoenix, Arizona native scored 20+ points in 8 games last season, including a 30-point game back on January 28th vs American.

Speed will look to bring a balanced, steady attack for FAU’s backcourt, providing much-needed playmaking and a definite extra boost of scoring. The talented guard will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

With his now third commitment from the portal, John Jakus and Co. have mostly sured up their now very experienced backcourt, with Braeden Speed joining Jelani Hamilton, returning guard Kanaan Carlyle, and incoming freshman Felipe Quinones. Forward Josh Harris also committed earlier today as Jakus still tries to sure up the Owls’ frontcourt for the 2026-27 season.
