After months of offseason workouts, recruiting wins and transfer portal additions, LSU officially turns its attention toward football as fall camp gets underway in Baton Rouge. The Tigers enter the 2026 season with expectations as high as they’ve been in years, fueled by a talented roster, an experienced coaching staff and hopes of returning to the College Football Playoff.
While every August brings optimism, this year’s camp carries even more significance. Several starting jobs remain up for grabs, new faces are expected to make an immediate impact and LSU must quickly establish chemistry before opening one of the nation’s toughest schedules.
Here are the five biggest storylines to watch as the Tigers begin preseason camp.
1. How quickly can Sam Leavitt take control of the offense?
No storyline is bigger than the development of quarterback Sam Leavitt.
After arriving in Baton Rouge with high expectations, Leavitt enters camp as the leader of LSU’s offense. His arm talent, mobility and experience have made him one of the most talked-about quarterbacks heading into the season, but fall camp will be his first opportunity to fully establish chemistry with the Tigers’ receivers under game-like conditions.
