Baton Rouge, LA.– LSU is officially back in the national spotlight.

Following a dominant 51-10 victory over Clemson in Lane Kiffin’s debut as head coach, the Tigers jumped five spots to No. 8 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The move marks LSU’s return to the AP’s top 10 and gives the Tigers an early statement ranking in the first regular-season poll.

The jump comes after LSU delivered one of the most impressive performances of opening weekend. The Tigers controlled Clemson from start to finish, pairing an explosive offensive performance with a defense that held the Tigers to just 10 points. The 41-point margin was also a historic opening statement for Kiffin in his first game leading LSU.

Entering the season with plenty of questions surrounding a new coaching staff and a revamped roster, LSU quickly provided an answer on the field. The Tigers entered the season ranked No. 11 in the AP preseason poll and have now moved into the top eight after just one game.

The ranking also sets the stage for a season with significant expectations. With LSU now sitting among the nation’s elite, every game carries additional weight as the Tigers look to establish themselves as a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.
