WEST PALM BEACH – For at least the second time this season, Melvin Hubbard has stood out from the pack.
In last Thursday night’s (Sept. 30) 56-12 win over Lake Worth, the senior running back capitalized on each opportunity he had with the ball. He registered a total of five carries for 131 yards and three scores on the ground.
This turned out to be enough for Hubbard to be chosen as our MVP of Week 6.
“He started as our deep back and also played at wing,” Forest Hill coach Dwayne McClendon said of Hubbard. “He’s super explosive. Two of his first three carries went for 50+ yards and touchdowns.”
Forest Hill head coach Jim Basford spoke about Hubbard’s level of impact on the game.
“Melvin really got us going,” Basford said. “I think he scored the first two times he touched the ball on long runs. He’s a good football player and we will look for him to make plays for us all year.”
Forest Hill senior captain Dmitry Peters chimed in.
“He’s just an amazing player and skilled athlete,” Peters said. “He gets the job done. He helped the team out while i was out for the week and just did what had to be done.”
Hubbard reflected on his own play against Lake Worth.
“I just did what had to get done,” Hubbard said. “I was stepping up for my team due to a couple players out on injury, especially in district. My guys came out there ready to go and we went out there and got the big home win.”
NOTE: Forest Hill (3-2) is now 2-0 in District 8-8A play. The next and final two district games are in Week 8 against Park Vista (5-0) and Week 9 against Santaluces (0-5).
