WELLINGTON, Fla. — Palm Beach Central continues its undefeated start Thursday night, defeating Dr. Joaquin Garcia 24-12 in the Broncos’ first District matchup of the season. Additionally, this game marked the first-ever meeting between Palm Beach Central and Dr. Joaquin Garcia as district opponents, making the win an important start to a new district matchup.

Central came out strong with a 17-0 lead into halftime behind sophomore starting quarterback Isaiah Hamilton and junior wide receiver Logan Lindsey-Hartwig. Hartwig has quickly solidified himself as one of Central’s biggest scoring threats this season. He accounted for three touchdowns against Garcia, catching two from Hamilton before sealing the game with a three-yard touchdown run on a fake field goal.

For Hamilton, taking over the offense as only a sophomore has come with high expectations. He has big shoes to fill following former Palm Beach Central quarterback Chance Routson, who was a major part of the Broncos’ offense. Despite being only a sophomore, Hamilton has shown early signs that he is ready to take on the role, especially through his growing connection with Hartwig and his other receivers, paired with his ability to create plays through the air. Hamilton has an incredibly high ceiling and plenty of potential ahead. Moreover, the Broncos’ defense also played a major role in the win, forcing five turnovers, including four interceptions. Nazier Watkins recorded two interceptions, while Jamari Burgess and Tyler Desilma each added one.

Running back Brandon Pendergrass, who entered the game averaging 148 rushing yards per game, finished with 19 yards on nine carries before leaving the game with an injury.

Despite the second-half push from Garcia, Palm Beach Central made the plays they needed down the stretch. Hartwig’s third touchdown put the game away and secured Central’s first-ever district victory over Dr. Joaquin Garcia.

Now sitting at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in district play, the Broncos remain undefeated. With Hamilton growing into his starting role and Hartwig continuing to add touchdowns to his season total, Palm Beach Central has plenty of young talent leading the way as district play continues.
