One of the best prospects in the state of Florida has made his college decision, landing with a fast-rising program in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Turmarian Moreland Jr., a standout for Palm Beach Lakes, committed to Virginia Tech and head coach James Franklin. The Hokies beat out both Georgia and Auburn, with the latter hosting Moreland Jr. on an official visit last week. Moreland Jr. also took an official visit to Virginia Tech, and while listed as an athlete, the Hokies landed Moreland Jr. as a defensive back prospect.

Speaking about his commitment to Zach Blostein of 24/7 Sports, Moreland Jr. highlighted Franklin as one of the main reasons he chose Virginia Tech.
“It just felt like home when I went on my official visit, and our trust in Coach Franklin and what he’s building over there. I feel like it’s just him as a person, not as only a coach, but he’s a great guy, personally. And I feel like if football [doesn’t work out], he’ll still be somebody I can call and check on.”
While he has the ability to make a big impact on offense, Moreland Jr.’s biggest impact has been on the defensive side of the ball. In 2025, he had 45 total tackles, 32 of which were of the solo variety. He had two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and seven passes defended.
Moreland Jr. has the versatility to play all over the field and at multiple positions. He can attack downhill and make plays as a linebacker in the run game. As a defensive back, he knows how to fill gaps and eliminate big plays before they can happen. In coverage, Moreland Jr. has the range, hit power, and instincts to be highly successful.
Within a very talented 2027 Virginia Tech recruiting class, Moreland Jr. has the potential to be one of the best players in it. When he arrives to campus, I would not be surprised to see the Palm Beach Lakes standout make an early impact for the Hokies.
