Mr. Step-Up Man: CB Teldrin Foster could emerge as Pahokee leader

PAHOKEE – Just this past season, Teldrin Foster made one big play that effectively extended an inspiring postseason run for the Pahokee Blue Devils.

In Pahokee’s 28-14 home playoff win over Hawthorne (Class 1A regional semifinal round), the then-junior cornerback stepped in front of his opposing man and caught an interception that sealed the game. It sent the Blue Devils crowd into a frenzy, knowing that they escaped a valiant comeback attempt by the Hornets.

Foster spoke on his breakout moment, which happened in the fourth quarter and with Pahokee up 21-14 at that point.

“This was my best game,” the 5-foot-11, 157-pound cornerback said. “We were up by a touchdown, and I had to do something to keep us going.”

Foster finished the Hawthorne game with 5 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and the interception. He allowed no catches in that game as well.

But the game Foster will remember the most is Pahokee’s season-ender against three-time defending 1A state champion Madison County, which turned out to be a 37-36 road loss in the 1A state semifinals. He had 3 tackles and 1 pass breakup in that one.

“We had a perfect game plan, but we just didn’t come out with the W,” Foster said. “A state championship was the goal, and we were one play away.”

Foster finished his junior season with 25 tackles, 5 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception.

“I was hoping for some crazy stat numbers, but I learned as the season went along,” Foster said. “I’ve grown a lot from last season.”

Foster (No. 4-ranked cornerback in Palm Beach County) expects to elevate his game more this year, which should result in him getting a slew of college scholarship offers at some point. He earned his first one from Keiser on June 12.

“It’s a good feeling,” Foster said. “But I’m not settling.”

Now with his senior year ahead of him, Foster also wants to take on a leadership role with the Blue Devils. He expects nothing less than a state title for his team.

“We just have execute the game plan,” Foster said. “If we eliminate the small mistakes, we will go undefeated.”
