Former Wolverines guard commits to Miami giving Jai Lucas another playmaker in year two 

The Miami Hurricanes strengthened their roster yet again early Tuesday, landing a commitment from Michigan transfer guard L.J. Cason.  

Cason, the Lakeland Florida native, heads back to his home state after spending his first two seasons with the Wolverines, appearing in 58 games over the two-year span and developing into one of the Big Ten’s reliable guards off the bench before suffering a season ending torn ACL in February.  

During his 2025-26 season, Cason averaged 8.4 points, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 rebounds while shooting just over 50% from the field and over 40% from 3PT. Cason’s plan is to sit out in the 2026-27 season while he finishes up his recovery process before returning in 2027-28.  

For Jai Lucas heading into year two, the addition of Cason represents yet another significant piece for this completely reshaped Miami team through the transfer portal. Despite the fact he will be sitting out and working his way back from injury, Cason gives the Hurricanes experienced guard play to look forward to in the future with championship experience.  

His commitment brings in another Florida product to Miami’s growing core and “win now” culture that Coach Lucas is continuing to grow, signaling the Canes’ intent to compete at the top of the ACC.
